The South African Association of Women Graduates (SAAWG) is an affiliate of the Graduate Women International (GWI), one of the world’s most important and prestigious non-governmental organisations devoted to the betterment of women. As a national federation or association, SAAWG participates in the GWI committees, conferences and activities.

It seeks equity for women graduates, cross cultural insights and co-operation, and societal advancement. Its great underlying purpose is world peace, brought about through education and international friendship.

INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ERADICATION OF POVERTY
The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty dates back to 17 October 1987. On that day, over 100,000 people gathered at the Trocadáro in Paris, where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948, to honour the victims of extreme poverty, violence and hunger. They proclaimed that poverty is a violation of human rights and affirmed the need to come together to ensure that these rights are respected.

INTERNATIONAL GIRLS IN ITC DAY
Cape Town. 26 April 2018 — On International Girls in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) Day, GWI and SAAWG drive global attention to the need for women’s and girls’ full and equal access to ICT education and careers. The 2018 theme “Expand Horizons, Change Attitude” is a reminder that gender inequalities continue to severely hinder women’s and girls’ ability to advance as academics and professionals.
